Hunger of the night

Hunger of the night

A Poem by Soren

A broken yolk behind egg white clouds

cools in night's darkening hunger

Moon's cake strewing star crumbs

sets sky's banquet table

Slow sliding shade of honey

drenches all with shadows

Craving grass salivates dew

devouring the last strings of star light

Abdominal sounds of night

pouring through gurgling streams

croaks growls and screeches

belching of frogs climb upward

On the edge of the pan of night

a new egg broken

yellowing the skillet's lip

warm meal to fill days belly

That has to be one of the most visual and finely set first stanzas ever! Makes one feel hungry for me.. and did so. Great language, a true masterpiece. May, I be green with envy, please!

Your writing both intrigues and impresses me. Be happy. :)

This is so good to read Soren. Indeed, all those guttural, intimate sounds of the night. It could be likened to a huge, humongous gut, in the throes of digestion.

The imagery in this poem is amazing. So breathtakingly original. Loved it!

I enjoyed the creative way of using a banquet and food for the setting sun as it turns into night. I loved the line about honey!!

You are welcome. What is better than dripping honey from the sky?!
The white and yellow of the egg shows us daylight and egg white cloud cover near darkness...a great metaphor of the shadows during dawn to rising sun to darkness, a broken egg, a new day....sounds of the hungry creatures at night...yellow egg to fill their bellies... eggs come to life...in this scene. nourishment for all....very creative
