Modern poet

Modern poet

A Poem by Soren

Scavenger of words

I pick among bones

dried skin of verbs

a carcass of past groans

Eating refuse that others refuse

Nature's trash picker's duty

Guts and bone sprinters reuse

stolen scraps of past beauty

From rotting meat there is worth

Recycling thoughts bled

Each creature a new birth

pieces of what was once dead

All in a quest to say something original. Something which is not second hand goods. How well you write Soren. A knock out first stanza. Draws the reader right in.

You leave me humbled Chris and this means a great deal coming from one who writes as well as you.
Ezra Pound is said to be the father of modern poetry, and he urged poets to "Do something new." I think your words may describe his works, some of which even his most devoted followers can't understand.

Thanks so much Thomas I really appreciate your reads and words

this is one of those that has helped to exercise my very own mental muscle .. and I must confess, I feel so much better for it .. my gut reaction, as well as being very positive made me think of the effects of plagiarism on an otherwise unsuspecting writer .. and then, maybe a micro-second later I caught sight of the fact that jacob had used the very same word 10 hours before me .. spooky or wot .. "dried skin of verbs"

and "stolen scraps of past beauty"...we use words others have used for centuries...
but we rearrange them, recycle them....
do we ever really create anything new, really?
Or is that all poetry is ...recycled refuse...maybe it is.
are Modern poets simply plagiarists...? I don't know whether I am asking that or making a statement.
I have thought the thoughts contained in this poem many times.
