Once

Once

A Poem by Soren

I know so little,

but in passing, I knew love once

and like an acquittal

all suffering it blunts

Stolen glimpses of the past,

a man who could see, but now is blind,

with fondness that will always last

coloring the blackness of my mind

Passion is only skin deep

but love goes to the bone

It pardoned the sins that I reap

though only once did I it own

I can die with a smile,

though it was so long ago

A redemption from life's trial

and that's all that I need to know

Passion is only skin deep/but love goes to the bone. Heavy truth here, one some never learn. The speaker in this one is not bitter, only grateful for the gift love gave him. Very moving and well rhymed piece.

Thanks so much for the review it means a great deal
trials and tribulations...starting overs or accepting acquittals even when they weren't there.
Life is a trial...if we balance ourselves out at the end...yes, there is a smile. A deep smile.

Sometimes its strange how similar it is for both men and women. Excellent.

Very good point.
Love is amazing and the memories, even more so. At times those memories hurt...badly, but over time they become a reminder of what we once had and that feels so good. Nicely done my friend.

Ahhh, to have love and lost and then to have loving memories of your past...
Love can do that to all of us...
I for one would rather to have loved and been loved than to never experience it...
Very good read Soren,

You are most welcome,

there is a somber acceptance of the unavoidable ending.
as if there is passion and content fighting within each line.

Your words are beautiful, sincere, gently passionate and more. Some writers can create meter around genuine emotions - you are one of them. '.. fondness that will always last - coloring the blackness of my mind.. '

This is beautiful Soren. Some go through life without ever finding love. If you have known love and then lost it, you will remember how love trumps everything else. You never forget that feeling.

A bitter sweet poem and exquisite in its wording.
