Between a rock and a hard spot

Between a rock and a hard spot

A Poem by Soren

After a week of deluge, another rainy day

A gray, wooden hill house under a grainy sky

A seated woman, in her arms an infant does lay

to quiet its cry, she rocks it, singing a lullaby

Water loosening saturated, ground

Circled by verdant mountains where boulders lie

Then close by, a groaning, rending sound

A lightning flash, a crash, sparks fly

A thunderous clap, then a roar

A house of so many years does sway

An explosion bursting through the door

A rolling stone crushes, as all gives way

Under it, a mother bathed in red

No time for hope, a prayer, or even a scream

A sleeping babe ejected to the bed

A rock took one life but spared a dream
