All men

All men

A Poem by Soren

I've wandered through Dante's inferno, heaven and purgatory,

traveled Ulysses' journey, fished with Hemmingway, lived his story,

I have fought Tolstoy's wars, battled the windmills of Cervantes,

pondered the politics of Plato, dipped deep Melvil's daunting seas,

endured Hardy's loss and lack of luck, Steinbeck's unjust poverty,

floated with Tom and Huck, suffered the mental turmoil of Dostoevsky

I have lived in the woods of Thoreau, sat under the Bodhi tree,

made Dicken's ultimate sacrifice, been on the cross at Calvery

I am all men and their story

A spectatcular piece with such meanings entwined in its learned lines. I just love this piece.

Thanks Ken I appreciate the review and most generous words.
I’m glad I saw notice of other reviews else I would have missed this gem, or is it Jim on the island with the shell?
A wonderful composition not only literarily but poetically, the consonance and assonance used with a masterful touch.

dearest Soren… your Poetry has struck a Chord with me… in fact it reminds me of a beautiful Pipe Organ with many sounds of Harmony… of people coming together … with the World in turmoil… we can only hope and pray for Peace and Goodwill. gently, Pat

Thank you deeply for your most generous and kind words of encouragement. They are most appreciated.
What more to say than this is a modern classic. Words can't do it justice. Have read it 6 times, will likely read it another 60 and still be unpacking the magical threads. Literary, mystical, and humanistic. A walk through great arts, human frailties and foibles, uplifting and forwarning. In other words ... one of the best damn poems I have read in ages.
