In dreams

In dreams

A Poem by Soren

Grasping smoke to store in a jar

to make dissolving wisps of hope last

With the dawn's final fading star

the sun's birth, darker shadows cast

A lost child, so long departed

the small hands clinging in embrace

to feel the joy they once imparted

to see again their beaming face

Reality's North wind's, shivering chill

to feel warmth again, from clinkers cold

to reignite embers, quenched and still

the heat of old love to once more hold

Only in dreams, you undo the present

by softly drifting into the past

the scent of sweet slumber, oh.. so pleasant

a shame, such comforting visions don't last

Yes our dreams are refections of the past, present and future. Whether they are good or bad dreams, they all have a message to help us better understand ourselves. Especially when dealing with childhood trauma that may be shielded from us for our protection, hey are often very symbolic dreams which can be triggering. I take the good that I can from the dreams and know that the bad is probably just a reflection of past trauma. Lovely poem.
