Progress

Progress

A Poem by Soren

There were the dark ages

then the Renaissance

enlightenment only an illusion

darkness from sages

as science gave its responce

mistrust's blindness a new delusion

Mechanical magic stole the show

truth sold for comfort held dear

misdirection to violence and fears

a cloud of deception did grow

now only a thin veneer

a blanket of false liberty appears

A hope for immortality

was the spark

to put death in chains

technology fed flames of vitality

leaving its mark

now only ashe remains

You are right Soren. New tech, new weapons and you can't find the truth no-more. I believe hard days are coming. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Thank you so much Coyote for the welcome review and kind words.
there is always a price to pay for progress...and we are paying for it now with AI...
immortality if we achieve it might just be as artificial as the intelligence that goes along with it.

Enlightenment and liberty do feel like an illusion these days. Perhaps, wisdom doesn't come from knowledge and technological advancement. What purpose did Renaissance serve then? All the knowledge in the world is not preventing men from destroying themselves. A powerful statement made, dear Soren. I loved how you highlighted man's failings and put up some vital questions.

Thank you so much Diva your remarks are deeply valued. Hope all is well with you.
Funny how things are left lifeless under the guise of progress. That insatiable quest to make something better that was perfectly fine the way it was. New and improved, forget what you enjoyed, we have something new for you. Great poem, kind of dark but truthful.
