We need imaginary supermen

to save us from a defunct society

We need sports heroes

to let us live our lives vicariously

We need action movies

to save us from a crippled and boring life

We need vigilantes

to protect us when injustice is rife

We need video games

to let us act out our fantasies

We need war

to remind us who are our enemies

We need disastrous news

to make us feel better about our own problems

We need superheros

to give control where we are powerless

We need medicine

to remind us we are not well

We need poetry

to save us from ourselves

I can manage without the super heroes, the video games, action movies and vigilantes. I can certainly live without the bad news, but poetry would be a killer for me. I can’t imagine a day that passes by without poetry in it. A poem a day keeps the doctor away:) I enjoyed this piece Soren.

Yes, we need all those things...I wonder if poetry really can save us from ourselves.

I seem to be writing such negative stuff lately...but then, the world is in such chaos...it is hard to see the sun.
