Acsetic

Acsetic

A Poem by Soren

Poverty some suffer by chance

others select it by choice

In this life there's a dance,

where nothingness' partner may rejoice

Poverty of health or wealth

does not mean destitution of the soul

But when one gains by stealth,

we have to ask what is life's goal?

To have nothing to loose is freeing,

standing with your back to the wall

All you have is your own being,

knowing, nothing more can hurt you at all

Giving up what one values is hard

There is beauty in the asthetic

But the trust to throw in one's last card,

is the choice, giving peace to the acsetic

I believe most of us put to high a price, monetarily and personally on "things!" That is my favorite thing, I can't live without that thing, I have to have that thing at all costs. Now, this sounds like me to an extent. I enjoy the search for that perfect thing, the haggle over price, the displaying of it but once it is found and paid for and put on display...sadly it is nothing more than a thing that i could easily live without.
I like your poem my friend, there is so much truth woven throughout your words. Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks Will. You are right we could do with so much less, but that does not make the economy go.

We live in a material world and place far too high a value on stuff. We can’t take it with us when we go. If we placed more value on relationships I’m sure we would be happier. Wealth doesn’t guarantee happiness. Enjoyed the read and the wisdom Soren.

Thank you Chris for the read and most kind comments.
You are quite right. As you infer life and happiness is not and never can be about owning things. Lots of great points put over very well.

Thank you Ken for your review and most encouraging words.
there is a line in "Finding Forrester" when Jamaal tells Claire "What's hard is knowing that those who you might be scared of know you have nothing to give"--
if all we have are our heart and soul...nothing material...I believe that could be the purest happiness.
such a strong write...and I feel the truth of this down to my core.

Thank you so much Jacob for the review and great comments.
Very deep words here, Soren. True that wealth has to be held lightly. An ascetic by nature will never hold on to money or worldly goods too tightly, however rich he may become. Ultimately, that's the true test of character. It's very true the saying that if wealth is lost, nothing is lost, if health is lost, something is lost and if character is lost, everything is lost. Your words remind me of that. Loved the message and the words.
