Art

For a start what is art? Does it have to fit all the rules?

Is it the same today as yesterday? Or are standards only tools?

For me it has to touch something deep inside

And take me on an emotional ride

If it taps into my soul, I need no more

If it doesn't take this control, it's not art, just a bore

I have visited Rome twice Naples once and have been gobsmacked by the magnificence of many, many buildings and also the Cistine chapel.
I'm a bit of a heathen but appreciate the time, effort and skill that folk of yesteryear put into their craft.

I agree. Art moves the soul. Though every heart is different and may define this word in their own way. And art is subjective but in its essence it is what stirs the soul individually. Our community is filled with precious valuable art and though it may be seen by few who is to say that in time the next great poets work currently resides here. A voice or voices that will speak to a future generation who yearn for art to move them.

So very well expressed Soren. If art can’t touch your emotions, then it isn’t art in the beholder’s eyes. I read two poems recently that made me cry. Now that is how art can reach you. There are pieces of music that do the same.
