Poetic relationship

Poetic relationship

A Poem by Soren

A relationship like a poem

Is something you must select alone

Some you have to get to know

Some on you, over time, do grow

Some are love at first sight

Some are a stand of one night

Some driven by passion

Others by love of a fashion

Some you remember all your life

Some calm, others full of strife

Carefully nurtured, groomed and planned

Errors corrected, or they're built on sand

I agree. Our poetry become our babies.
"Carefully nurtured, groomed and planned
Errors corrected, or they're built on sand"
The above lines. I liked. I hate to edit my old poetry. I am afraid, the meaning will get lost. Thank you Soren for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

No worries, hope all is well You're welcome !
This really speaks to art in general. We as creatives take our work personal because the pieces of ourselves we instill within it. Like our time, wisdom, aspirations, and love. They become in ways extensions of ourselves in hopes they may resonate or find a home in the readers heart. We do this at times oblivious to the fact that art is subjective. Not everything we create will have impact on an audience or may even be viewed with any significant relevance. Some are passed by without even a thought. And this becomes personal to us, because in ways we believe our art defines us individually. The trick is letting it stand on its own merit. Like a child we can't live there life for them. I've seen so many things I've written and believed in not even viewed or rarely seen by anyone, and I've seen stuff that I didn't think was as strong of mine resonate with many readers. Because it engaged them in ways I didn't see nor understand. Our relationship with our art is exactly how you describe and more. We see it almost as a failure in ourselves when it is unnoticed. As if its success defines our own. That in the end is not a healthy way to view one's work. Because again art is subjective and we don't control the preferences of our audience. We can only seek to influence it if possible, nothing more. They love what they love. What I myself try to do is write a few for them and write maybe one for me and not take it to heart. A balance that helps against any residual anguish I may have in myself. Because our art are like children. We have to let them stand on their own. Despite the hopes we may feel for them.

I feel this one, it does happen and often when it does it is the most wonderful thing in the world but at times that feeling can end and well...I'm not sure it every ends but it does end. I like your analogy because a poem is like a relationship...I can love a poem or hate a poem or something in between. Nicely done Soren.
