Lament

Lament

A Poem by Soren

The tax I pay is forty dollars a day

One hundred dollars for the mortgage is a chore

The maintenance it's true is no more than you

Forty five dollars to keep roof and floor

To keep it cool, ten dollars is the rule

The insurance is thirty dollars more

The water to pay is two dollars a day

Then there is the gas to go to the store

At over two hundred dollars a day let me say

This doesn't include car, food, and more

My pocket they pick that doesn't cover if I get sick

On a fixed income I am poor

Lament noted and lived on an equal destitution and to add salt to the open wound they hand out 'smart devices' on incremental contracts, keeping further a leash that constantly reminds us with lighted screens just how destitute we are with technology that could save and run ancient worlds in our hands.

Gee
I take it this is the good ol' USA, land of the free and skint.
I've just completed paying my mortgage after 35years, the last 2 years paying £1400 a month!
