![]() SongbirdA Poem by SorenA songbird it's a sin to kill It just looks pretty and sings It harms no one and does no ill. Only happiness it brings Once I trapped one, luring it with lies When I caught it, I clipped its wings Now it no longer flies I took away all its dreams For years in a cage it was kept A creature once so full of cheer Being a bird it never wept But it always shook, full of fear Boughten food it does adore With its liberty it pays for it But its native songs, it sings no more Quiet on its perch it does sit Paying little attention to its needs I didn't notice when its feathers grew back It's door left open, while putting in seeds It flew out through the crack It won't return to its wire home Although it ligers cautiously about It no longer sings nor does it roam It doesn't eat, it looks at everything with doubt Not at home in the place of its birth And unable to return to its cage It soon will leave this mortal earth And to the angels its songs engage © 2022 Soren |
