Burnt offerings

Burnt offerings

A Poem by Soren
"

After setting myself accidentally on fire a month ago it occurred to me how many people hurt themselves on purpose, either to feel alive or draw attention.

"

I haven't been feeling well, since I set myself on fire

It's not only the pain, but the smell, that has left me without desire

Scarification, self mutilation,

Carving on one's limbs, starving until consciousness dims

I thought I might try, so as to understand why

But if one is going to do it, don't eschew it

Don't play, go all the way

Cremation, self immolation

Hell, the smell, of alcohol gel

Chard flesh, leaves you feeling alive and fresh

A disfiguring scar, will draw looks from afar

But after one try, skin starts to melt, bubble and fry

Open wounds sting, cloths to raw flesh cling

So I find that I am too old, to be among

Those that are so bold, leave it for the young
