So many words have passed between us

But it’s been years since we’ve talked

We used to talk of dreams and funny things

We used to laugh until we cried

Now it’s been so long since I’ve seen your smile

How long has it been since happiness died?

You lay so close to me

Yet you’re so far away

You would lay on my shoulder

You used to giggle and play

We swore to be together forever

And so we are, in skin and bone

Cold words stiffen my muscles

Your eyes burn through me

then leave me alone

It’s been years since we’ve talked

How can I know where you have gone?

It’s been years since we’ve talked

And I feel the chilled winds of winter coming on

Ah, the place and the friend that we all have visited. Well done.

Relationships can exist in phases but I love your idea of winter as being best for cuddling. A love is clearly lost but at least you have the memories. If I had it to do over, I would have made sure to ask for last names; as I too have thought of someone over the years. Most love poems can be kind of cliche or mushy but always make for ideal journal entries.
