One More DanceA Poem by Kristen H“One more dance?” I said as a slow song started playing overhead. “Of course” you answered, as I lead you to the dance floor where we swayed in each other’s arms until we kissed. “Can we still be friends?” you asked me as we stood in the hallway on that night in late March, my mind still shocked and confused as to what just happened. “Sure” I replied, quickly ending the conversation and walking outside so I could leave and cry. “Great job today” I said to you quietly two months later, as we both reached for the fries, my heart pounding with each second I stood near you. “Thanks, you too” you responded, making eye contact with me, then grabbing your food and leaving. “We’re still friends right?” the words on my phone read at the end of your text, replying to my sentimental message. “Of course we are.” I answered back, smiling for the first time in months and feeling the adrenaline rush from talking to you again. “#thatsmysweatshirt” you typed in the comments of the last photo I posted, a selfie that I took in March when we were still dating. But this time, I don’t have an answer for you. No quick response with a strong emotion behind it. Just. Nothing.
