Glossy to Dusty~

Glossy to Dusty~

A Poem by Sophy Freebirds
"

No prologue to this tragic poem....

"
Eyes travel to the glossy cover....
My hands itch to have you...
Turning it over my sweaty palms....
Tempting words dance in my view.

How i wish to tug it, to my heart!!
How i wish to own it,Every inch!!

Dancing to Illusion's tune..
I fly and fall and frown....

Austen's regency turns to King's horror...!!
I scream! As i see my reflection in mirror..

With every chapter i painted
Myself in a new role......
Each stroke digging
A new deep hole!!
Fantasizing about being your perfect mate,
I drown in my own doomed fate!

No epilogue to this tragic play!
Escape!! Obh escape....
From this demonic sway...
Shut the cringy book!
Slam to gnawing reality.....
Its here....... Its here.....
Here fades my ecstacy

Sophy... the pain we feel at the inevitable, all consuming, death of a book, or story, or poem is heightened when we have invested ourselves in the characters and roles... as you say, we "paint ourselves into the story..." your words here have made that an easy task... and an enjoyable one. Great job!

Books have a certain magnetize, especially for those of us who love to read. Your speaker seems hooked from the moment she sees this work of literature. She hangs on every detail of her thrilling read...and then the ending doesn't bring the necessary closure. I've read more than a few exacly like the book you describe in this poem.

I really liked your stanza about painting yourself in each role. You really liked this novel, and we lived it right along with you.

Thinking and assesing and weighing to finally come to some sort of clarity. It seems that every so often we should stop and look around, just in case we've missed something, anything! As it can be of useful nature. Potentially then a new beggining. I smiled when this came in "Fantasizing about being your perfect mate" an intimate moment which also gets to show how at times The perfect becomes the enemy of the good.

It is great to see you again Sophy!

Hope all is well.

Thank You.

Great poem to kick off the new year. When you just can't get to that ending you want, just write the darned thing yourself. :)

We always want what we can't have and sometimes we want something so bad it turns into an obsession causing us to do things we never thought we would. Quite a poem to kick off the year.

You are most welcome.
i think your ecstasy just took a break, it will return...and the dust will shake itself off...you will have a "Revival" of sorts...and coincidentally with this poem...i am reading King's "Revival" at the present moment---almost through with it...

glad you are back..missed reading you.

Unfortunately we sometimes paint ourselves into a corner. Life does not turn out as we had hoped or planned. Truth is, there is always a way out. No need to have a prologue, but there IS an epilogue. You can always go forward. There is no way to go back. May your ecstasy return in a new and better form! Glad to see you posting again, Sophy. Lydi**
