Metaphorical Demise

Metaphorical Demise

To love you is to love a field of lilies For an open casket to send across the seas Your petals adorn the waves like litter Colors of sweet to mask the underlying bitter To love you is to love a poet's pen My inspiration stolen, locked in the den You spill your ink on my paper like white on rice Not a second thought on who pays the price To love you is to love a pair of old reading glasses With just enough clarity, and just enough scratches I have to squint, can't see far ahead of me Bound by what I can only dream of, but can never see To love you is to love an old willow tree Looming over darkness, looming over me You are done, but I can never cut you down You hold my pity over your head like a golden crown To love you is to love a fairy tale To pray for a ship that will never sail To love you is to say goodbye But thank you, for showing me all the ways in which I can die
