You Crazy Diamond

You Crazy Diamond

A Poem by Amelia H.
"

A pretend story of Syd Barrett's girlfriend watching and following his antics, wanting more from life.

"

I dreamt of the lights,

Swirling in a neon of pinks and blues.

I dreamt of walking behind,

Following you.

We saw impractical animations,

Ones with our names to have brought joy.

Now all we do is sit and pluck

A sad tune on this guitar.

And thus what became of you?

You shine, you crazy diamond you.

My darling Syd, who are you?

Lost in the swirl of the neon blues.

Even entangled in the midst of the lights,

You seemed to glimmer loud and bright.

And with a mouthful of dirt and cement,

I cry empty for you in the night.

You will be fine,

You will be loved.

People will always love you for your shows

And in the crowd is where I stand,

Wondering if you see the top of my head.

Within the psychosis that you find in your day,

I lay with your same empty stare.

Awaiting the day you come to your senses,

And find my essence bare.

What it is I do, what it is I am,

I know is much more than this.

And I, my crazy diamond,

Will shine bright like you some day.
