Haunted

Haunted

A Poem by sonnie ibadah

The battles that raged on through the years against humanity,
So we fought them.
But fear and greed brought the uncertainty,
So we failed them.
Failed our fathers and our children.
Failed our mothers and our brethren.
Because we are cursed,
Cursed by the color of our skin.
Cursed by the places we have been.
Cursed by what we have, haven't and crave to have.
Cursed by the hearts in need that we selfishly starved.
We scream and shout,
That not all of us are to blame
but we are guilty all the same.
For every null promise and every lie.
We have punctured the wound deeper,
For every truth that we deny,
the blood has flown further.
But now?
Now it's too late.
We can no longer defy our fate.
For we are dead.
We are all dead!

Though the end may seem near and everything so hopelessly mundane, still one should always remain positive.. This being said, I agree with your described feelings.. You have written beautifully and truthfully what has been stuck for too long.. I liked reading this. Good work!

The fight for freedom, free speech, just words on the wall.
Money rules the world, and when we've stripped the poor countries bare, guess what, we've now got the technology to find other planets to exploit.

A never-ending nightmare. Thank you for stopping by Paul
Wow. This was a great read. It reads almost like the manifesto of a general going into a battle he feels bound to lose. Does he go into the battle anyway or does he retreat? And does it matter? And if so, to whom does it matter? You leave wonderful trails of semantics open to exploration.

I look at our idealism in the sixties and for what we strove...and fought for...and yet...where is it?
How far have we come? Or have we backtracked as to understanding that we are all the same creatures inside...religious beliefs, skin color, ethnic origin....all surface glows..inside we are just people...
all here for a purpose...and to strive to that purpose together. This is poetry that really matters.

Old poet once said.
"The world won't die quickly. It will die a slow and painful death."
"Now it's too late.
We can no longer defy our fate.
For we are dead.
We are all dead!"
I wrote many years ago. It will take a nuclear weapon and millions people dead for us to learn. All life is worthwhile. Your words strong and true. Thank you Sonnie for sharing the amazing poetry.
