One Last Breath

One Last Breath

A Poem by sonnie ibadah

Under the dark blue sky, no stars shining
heavy clouds, cold wind blows,
pain comes and goes.
Here, we stand
in the middle of a homeless land,
why is it so hard to understand?
that our fate is not in our hands?
Helpless, I turn to you and stare,
I wish your pain was mine to bear.
Your body is going cold, freezing,
watching you slowly breathing.
And I fear losing the only thing I’ve ever believed in.
I beg you to hold on
Yes, I cling to you to be strong.
But it all seems wrong,
why you?
and why not me whose life should be slipping right through his fingers?
Once full of dreams to fulfill,
love to share,
and others' burden to selflessly bare.
“Don’t cry.” You faintly whisper,
with that faint smile, it makes it harder,
you strain
to hide the boundless pain.
As I feel a sharp piercing through my heart
and I remember the promise, ‘we’ll never part’
I wonder how I can survive this.
You have to survive this.
For us, for me.
For the countless nights I waited up for you,
for the only heart that beats for you.
Fight, yes fight!
Because we still have so much more to live for,
Us.
It then strikes me,
like the world suddenly stopped.
My heart is brutally torn apart.
Is it this painfully simple?
“Please don’t go…” I cry,
but your cold trembling hand touches my face,
you smile for the last time, whispering,
“Don’t wait up for me love…”
There.
For a moment, I had you,
and the next, I lost us.
I curl closer to your cold lifeless body and I suddenly realize,
I am far dead than you are!

wow, you can just feel it, piercing to your soul as you read it... amazing!

I remember the time how I lost my mother into cancer, the time that you know her time was limited that her sickness was progessing, the cold is coming to her, until she died in her sleep... that's what was running in my mind through-out the entire time as i read this piece...
heartfelt emotional piece, Great work!
