I wrote a song for you
a song I write for few
but before the song was due

away from me you flew
you took my melody with you
before the song was due

I wrote a song for you
a song I write with care
the words were very rare
for my strong feelings they bear
but before with you I could share
you left, life’s so unfair

I wrote a song for you
a song filled with love
with peace like a white dove
all your problems it would solve
but before it was served
you flew to the skies above

I wrote a song for you
a song to make you smile
but I couldn’t make you smile
even just for a while
because in just a short while
you were gone over a thousand miles

I wrote a song for you
to eliminate all the lies
and show you my love that will never die
but now I write it as I cry
for you left before I could say goodbye!
