Light through the MistA Poem by AltonThoughts of my coming-up birthday, the passage of time, and questions over my possible success inspired me to write this little gem the other day. Enjoy.I search for someone who doesn’t Exist Someone so perfect, I can’t Resist A lonely face, clinging to the Mist Expectations help us soar, and hold us Down Everywhere we look, perfection’s nowhere to be Found The answer hides in whispers that don’t make a Sound These eyes, they see and search and Blink And although there’s a lot to say, and more to Think I feel as though I wash my dreams into the Sink But this is Now, not then, not When And there’s too much time to Spend Chasing after something, impossible to Apprehend It’s not a person, a god, a number or a Car A yet a face, distinct, though seen from Afar A direction, a future, the light travelling from a Star The face is my own, in years yet to Come And inside it, the person I might Become And within those misty eyes lies the path to Wisdom © 2009 Alton |
