Unconscious Obsession: (Alice Kolda) Story version

A Story by Billie Atterberry
"

A love that may never be because of fear

"

Her eye's appeared lost in a sea of thoughts as she starred out into the woods in front of her, pondering her next column  Little did she know she was being watched by a man, who had his eyes on her for some time now. For months he would catch a glimpse of her walking to work, or sitting at a table in the woods only wishing he had the nerve to go up and talk to her. His dreams were filled with images of her every night, as well as his thoughts every day. If only he could muster up the nerve to at least say hi, but something about her seemed unapproachable; what he didn't know. For hours he could watch her as she sat at that same table every day writing in her journal, wondering what she was writing about, wanting so desperately just to know her. Normally he could walk up to any girl at any time and get their number, but with her it was different and he couldn't understand why. What was so different about this girl, what made her so irresistible yet unapproachable at the same time? Why couldn't he just say Hi?

Alice was not your typical girl from spencer Iowa, in fact half the people she came across from here did nothing but get on her nerves. She couldn't understand why everyone was so obsessed with knowing everyone else's business; it was like she lived in a place that thrived on nothing but drama and hate. She tried to make friends, but only managed to make two that she could truly trust and they weren't even from this town. Their names were Natasha and Aaron, and they were a couple. Although the idea of being in a relationship didn't really appeal to her she admired the one that they have. She grew to care about the two of them so much that when they would argue, and hurt one another unintentionally, she would hurt along with them. There were times they would unintentionally put her in the middle, the last thing they wanted was for her to have to deal with their problems but her heart for them would always put her there no matter what. Often they would apologize for their arguing, but it didn't really matter, she loved being able to help if she could.

Although she wasn't really much for dating, she did have her moments of loneliness and longing for what her friends Natasha and Aaron had, but without the arguing preferably. The Idea of eventually having moments of arguing with someone is not what would stop her from pursuing the idea of a relationship, nor did she want to change anything about her lifestyle she was quite comfortable the way it was. Little did she know someone wanted to be a part of her life in a very intimate way, someone she never even noticed, noticing her? For months the same man she would joke around with at work, and admit tingly so had a secret crush on, all the while was infatuated with her as well. Though the idea that they may actually have a connection never crossed her mind due to the substantial difference in their ages, she still longed to have him. He was young, much younger then she would normally be attracted to, but his personality radiated and brought a sense of brightness to her days.  She looked forward to the days she was working with him, not only did he make her laugh all the time, but he was very nice to look at. For someone his age being as young as he was, he didn't come off like most in his age group. He had a sense of maturity, and was more dedicated then most people that were older than him, and he was fun.

There were a few times she wanted to tell him that she liked him, but her shyness would get the best of her. She usually wasn't shy, when it came to these sorts of things, but the idea of being hurt again hindered her from ever saying how she felt. Coming from a history of bad relationships, she was terrified of it happening again, so she left it at coworkers and friends with the young man, never knowing that he dreamed of her as she did of him. There were little moments where she would catch him looking her way with what appeared to be a look of longing, but she would just shrug it off to wishful thinking. Aaron her best friend kept urging her to go for it, telling her that she will never know unless she tries. He was right about one thing, by being so shy she could be letting something great pass her by. "But How" She wondered to herself. How do I let him know that I like him without making things awkward if the feelings are not returned? She was so afraid to try, so afraid to ruin the happy atmosphere he brought with him when he was around.

Two People, that are so obviously into one another and yet neither one of them had the nerve to tell one another. Are they going to let a chance for love pass them by or will one of them finally speak up?
