today is the day

I don't know yet, just now writing it. :)

I wake to the pain of the Sunlight intruding

and taking me from a dream with you by my side

I struggle to leave, but the day it won't let me

slowly I'm losing you to the light

I rise to the call of all that I must do

I shower with eyes closed as I search for your smile

today is the day I accept of your leaving

now all I can do is wait your return

nine hours away, it sounds like it's nothing

but I wake in pain when I wake without you

You are all that I love, you are all that I long for

you are all that I'm missing in the light of the day

tomorrow will come, with or without you

I can't close this door on all that I know

come home.

The emotion is far from simple, you have here a pouring out of something tantamount to grief.
Your story told in prose form is poignant and well-placed. I'm not sure if these are lyrics, but whichever way it goes you have a winner...congrats :-)
