CassielA Story by PhoebeA quick warm-up story about an OC of mine.
Cassiel always loved to feel the breeze tear through the tangles of her hair.
It warmed her heart and brightened her smile to watch the grass rustle in response to the whispers of the wind. Such fragile communication intrigued her, and she wished that she could be apart of that balance. When it came to nature, everything fit together like puzzle pieces. Everything had its job, and everything performed it splendidly. Cassiel didn't understand why humans weren't the same way. A graceful deer bounds and leaps over the overgrown forest with ease; Cassiel had stubbed her toe exiting her room not long ago. Oh, how she scorned the life she had been born into. I would much rather be a magnificent eagle, flying high up among the clouds, she mused one day while laying down in the grassy fields near her house. She watched a bird moving in circles in the sky, searching for prey-- and Cassiel lamented more and more. How dull it is to be human. I would much rather be a great whale, so vast and elegant. The bird in the sky appeared to have spotted some prey. She was envious of it's sparkling shine -- did all birds glimmer in such a way? She was too engrossed in her soliloquy to answer such a question, and continued on with her thoughts: I would much rather be a slender cheetah, bounding across the savanna at magnificent speeds. Humans are so slow. She glanced upwards. The predatory bird had spotted its prey, and was indeed, flying at top speed right toward Cassiel. She had expected much worse; talons sloppily breaking through delicate flesh-- the surges of terrible pain and then the sweet release of death, maybe? Unconsciousness? But Cassiel was met with something different. She found herself floating amongst the clouds, sporting the great, large wings -- of an angel, maybe. Was she dead? She couldn't tell. She looked down at her small, wooden house -- which, at from such a great height, appeared to be one you might put in a dollhouse. She saw two small figures down there, looking up at the sky. Cassiel waved goodbye: they were here parents. "Goodbye!" She cried, delighted, "Goodbye, mother, father, you don't have to worry." She was truly cheerful. She flew at top speeds, feeling the wind in her hair and touching the clouds with her fingertips. She had never felt better in all her days. Until Cassiel realized that... from a very young age, she had been very scared of
heights. She had been so caught up in her new-found power that she had forgotten. The second she looked down, it was as if her heart stopped beating. Her wings stopped flapping, and she clawed at the empty air as she fell, as if there was something she could even grab on to. Letting out an agonized shriek as she hit the ground, Cassiel woke up. She woke up on the grassy fields she had fallen asleep on. She looked up at the predatory bird, circling, circling, glimmering. She went inside. The bird began to go. She hugged and kissed her parents-- the bird was gone. Cassiel was happy to be human. © 2015 Phoebe |
