Beautiful Boy

For my cousin, who was diagnosed with cancer many years ago and now he's graduating high school this year

 

I remember when

You were just a little boy

With a mind full of dreams

And a heart as pure as gold

Burdened with hardships

When you were so young

We prayed everyday

For your health.

 

Times were dark

But you were a ray of sunlight

An example

The epitome of hope

You laughed and played

You cared and loved

Nothing could ever

Break your spirit.

 

Dear beautiful boy,

You’ve grown so fast

You’re about to enter

A whole new world

Never forget

All you’ve been through

Your experiences
Will only make you stronger.

this was beautiful and heartfelt, I hope he got to read this poem. I had a cousin, Noel, she died of cancer when she was 8 before I was born, but I heard her spirit was never broken, either.
