FOLB Chapter 1

Time to move.

“Dude, get the f**k out.” Peter laughs hysterically as Dina shoves him off the cement wall. Her outcries are muffles by the hand over her nose. ”Ah damn it, it's in my mouth!” She gags exaggeratedly. Peter laughs.

“It's my present for you, my dear.”

“Then save the farts for Julia, okay, you sicko?” Dina shoves his shoulder again. Peter lets the force of her push bend him over, leaving his butt in the air.

“She just doesn't appreciate my love like you do, baby.” A foot to his a*s and a little nudge sends him face first into the concrete. “Hey!”

Ivan snorts and an arm slides around Dina's waist as she sits on the parking garage wall. He watches Peter scramble up. “Enough of the presents, lover boy.”

“You didn't have to kick me.” Peter mumbles. Julia laughs and snags his jeans by a belt loop with her thumb.

“Stop being a baby and farting in people's faces. It's not attractive. You'll never find a girlfriend like that.” Julia laughs as Peter sticks her tongue out at him.

“I thought I had that covered.” Julia shrugs.

Charlie sits up on the hood of her Jeep and stares at her four friends. Beyond them she can see down onto the street from their spot on the upper level of a parking garage. The sunlight beats down on the white asphalt glaring up on the lazily smiling group. Cars pass quickly below them, always a place to go and Charlie crosses her legs on the hot, white metal under her.

“Guys. Let's go to Santa Cruz.” Peter smiles at her and leans against Julia.

“Sounds like someone's bored of Monterey.”

“Completely.” Charlie falls back onto her windshield but sits up again. “But it's totally more than that.” She scoots forward and kicks her heel against the Jeep's grill. “Guys, this is the same damn spot I've been parking in for two years. We graduated three weeks ago and we're still here. Monterey High is down that f*****g street right there. Let's just go to Santa Cruz, shack up in a cheap hotel, dick around on the Boardwalk or something. It's barely noon. We'd be back tomorrow night.”

There's a quiet that falls over the group, the kind that highlights Charlie's frustrated huffs. While Julia and Dina stare at the outburst, Peter grins. Ivan slips up onto the hood next to Charlie. She can see her exasperated brow in the reflection of his aviators.

“I'm in.”

Charlie smiles for the first time in a week, the kind of smile that drains all exasperation away and she sags against Ivan.

“Good.” She sits up and looks him in the face, “I was kinda thinking I was going a little crazy.” Peter hops up on Charlie's other side, the Jeep hood popping under his weight, grinning.

“You are, but we all are.” Charlie looks at Dina and Julia.

“Oh, I was in from the let's go.” Dina grins and suddenly all eyes are on Julia. She smiles awkwardly.

“You know I should really check with my mom.” A moment passes and nothing is said. Then Peter is yelling, at Julia's side on the wall with his arm thrown around her shoulders.

“Just get in the f*****g car. I wanna ride the Giant Dipper.”

Yup.

I personally don't appreciate opening with potty humor but I could definitely see how that would grab at a specific audience. It made your characters really relate-able and real, for sure.
