Traceless Footsteps of Silhouettes

Traceless Footsteps of Silhouettes

A Poem by Snits

I walk as a lonely shadow
among the hustle of the city street.
Amidst the shoes and wheels
I sway.
My dark outline follows the thousands of footsteps etched into the road.
Leaving a story within its deep ridges,
each step has a shoe, has a soul.
My shadow leaves no remains, gliding across the dark pavement.
Perfectly outlined,
but I am a single shade of grey.
I am there, but you can't see me.
I won't let you.
You watch my figure move past you.
You gaze at my body, my lines, my hair flowing along the street.
But you can't see me.
You are prepared to take a dive into the depths of my shadow
to search my thoughts.
But the earth is hard and sturdy.
There is, laid upon the road, a shape of perfect dimensions,
but my eyes you cannot have.
The sun falls against the city,
and my delicate shadow fades into the cold pavement of the night.
You struggle to follow,
but my dark silhouette has leapt from street to street
to where you cannot go.
The slight smile behind your eyes searches desperately
to find even a small flicker of light
within my dancing shade of grey.
I remain hidden behind my black shadow
as I glide along the pavement.
You try relentlessly to break through the earth,
to my thoughts, my dreams,
but I won't let you.
