The Flight After

The Flight After

A Poem by Snits

I was there and you were there,

finding our seats aboard the plane.

You came to sit by me

but they said we would have the whole next flight.

We both wait impatiently,

a non-stop movement in our legs.

I count down the seconds until the plane lands,

glancing back every few to see if you are counting too.

We spend time waiting in line for our flight to follow.

My heart drops when they refuse to let me board.

I run to catch your shadow,

but I am seconds too late.

I stand alone between hundreds of seats

filled with people with a story,

with a place to go.

Staring through the glass window

I see nothing but your plane amidst the chaos.

While you lift into the air

my heart sinks to my stomach.

I watch through my tears as I'm not there.

They said we would have the whole next flight,

but I'm still here.

About
I walk as a lonely shadow among the hustle of the city street. Amidst the shoes and wheels I sway. My dark outline follows the thousands of footsteps etched into the road. Leaving a story with.. more..
