If Our Eyes Meet

If Our Eyes Meet

A Poem by Snits

A cold chair underneath my thighs,
with my back pressed against its curves.
I sink into the depths of the carpet.
Its four metal legs are the only thing keeping my heart from melting onto the floor.
As I sit awkwardly, trying to hide the uncomfortable curves of my body,
my gaze is across the room.
I watch you, and analyze you, and listen to the way you talk.
I smile at the way you lean back in your chair
as though you hadn’t a care in the world.
I blush at the subtle smile beneath your rosy cheeks.
Imagine what it would be like to be the reason for your smile,
to have you softly touch my cheek.
It becomes a quiet game of cat and mouse with our eyes dodging one another’s.
I glance at you,
then at the trees swaying in the wind outside the window.
At you,
then at the tables around the room.
I look back at you, and you at me.
Your eyes catch mine and with that gaze,
we smile.

About
I walk as a lonely shadow among the hustle of the city street. Amidst the shoes and wheels I sway. My dark outline follows the thousands of footsteps etched into the road. Leaving a story with.. more..
