The Peace We Long For

The Peace We Long For

A Poem by Stefon Napier

The world is too small for peace and freedom

That Russia and America shared winter.

You could throw a stone from Havana to Miami

And break a few windows in Tampa if you were lucky.

If only teaspoons could hold all the things we had to say.

Peace is more important than the things they carried

If war could be held in a teaspoon he could have carried her along

Whole and free, not framed in perspective

The triumph of peace over humped love.

If only teaspoons could hold all the things we had to say,

Freedom would be less of a luxury.

More than red, white and blue.

T he children could finally sip the peace we long for.

And the world could finally be vast
