The Decline

The world is slowing crumbling

The walls have been knocked down

Where once we stood united

Is no longer solid ground.

Chaos, racism and lack of trust

Just to name a few

Drugs, violence and infidelity

Does any of this sound like you?

We've created a mess and lost our way

Our patience has grown so thin

To this we need to rectify

But where do we begin?

Our hearts are cold, our tempers hot

So quick to start a fight

It didn't use to be like this

We use to love with all our might.

I can't be the only one 

That thinks we need to change

Together a difference can be made

If we choose to rearrange.

Though I find some of the word choices and rhymes in this, to be lacking a bit of maturity, overall it very poignant piece, especially given the climate of today's world, and all that is going on right now in this country and others. Great last verse though. You almost don't even need the rest of the poem. Nice job!

I'm not so sure the world has gotten more violent or if it's just everyone and there mother has a video camera, a live feed and instant access to the web now. A lot of evil s**t got swept under the carpet back in the day.

I definitely agree with you Baby....but I do think things also have gotten worse. Everyone is always so consumed and concerned with their own gratification an d satisfaction that nothing else matters. It's sad. These days it's so much easier to be nasty and vicious to someone rather than helpful. Breaks my heart and it makes it hard to remain in the good character God intended.
