The Cut

The Cut

A Poem by Godwin Snow

The outside is content

The interior is in turmoil

Filled with anger

Blood begins to boil

Flowing and stinging

Pain is the father, son, and pale white ghost

Crashing down in waves, a powerful hit

The razor widens the slit

Father forgive me for I am damned

a deep but sad write, but well expressed

Posted 5 Years Ago

I probably shouldn't have laughed at the end, but I did, and while I'm feeling somewhat remorseful, to my defense it was because of the impact of the last line. It gave a oh f kind of vibe as when a mistake or accident occurs and thus became rather relatable. Definitely a very well done usage of "I am damned." I tend to find that poems which curse, even if slightly, don't always do in a meaningful way, but this certainly was meaningful besides being impactful. Rereading it over, I noticed the somewhat proportional first five lines more, but it was definitely the last four which stood out to me most. They have a sharpness and rawness to them that make them truly compelling.
