Invidia

Invidia

A Poem by Samantha Marie
"

Inspired by The Cure's Lullaby

"
And if I love you, like I tell you
Like you tell me too
Then why can I not stand to see you glow?
Each smile with eyes that tell a thousand tales
Every sense of joy alight, every girl friend's giggle--
Oh, hear comes the dark man again
He's creeping ever closer now
You've never met the likes of him, I know
He whispers soft things in my mind
"Beautiful girl," he says, "Sad, strange, pathetic girl."
The dark man holds me closer than you ever could
Shivering, shaking, and though he brings me pain
The wicked black man has resurrected my very soul tonight, I'm sure
Cracking the whip he's held for centuries a time
I know he cannot be finished with me yet
I'll be staring, seeking, wretchedly bored and seeing photographs of you
The dark man will always come back for more
My spirit is his daily bread.
