THE BIRTHDAY PARTY

While examining this magical land, the scent of fresh seawater filled my lungs, the rows of palm trees in sight, and the landmarks enthralling me.

A friend’s voice interrupted  my pleasant thoughts, “Sam, where’s Josephine’s house?”

“Straight! Straight ahead!” I replied, with my index finger pointing to a random house. I was confident, despite being clueless. With that being said, the fifty of us marched forward.

Progressing forward, numerous unfamiliar faces faced us. Eccentric, but didn’t bother me, until I approached a man on the street.

“Do you know the way to Bridge Road?” He stared at me with those beady eyes for a minimum of thirty seconds, before replying.

“Yes. Just go straight, turn left then right.”

Thoughts swirled around in my mind.  “That guy was weird. What a creep. But honestly, I appreciate the directions he gave.”

We continued our march, with more stares and slightly awkward moments being made. It was that moment I realised I was one of the many ugly duckling swimming in a river of swans.
