Sunset Realities

Sunset Realities

A Poem by Joe Butler

I remember that night when you wore that dresss,
and I dropped my glass and it made a mess,
but instead of cleaning it up, we just danced on the stain,

Singing so loud we woke up the whole town,
didn't care if the police came and shut us down,
you were a young and reckless, silver necklace queen,

But those days are gone and you're so withdrawn,
I don't know if we're off or if we're on,
I still feel your kiss but does love still exist at all,

Should I let you go,

I still see the girl that I gave the whole world,
and I still feel the same as I have everyday,
that you walked into my life,
stole the sunlight for me,
now I just can't walk away,
If there's still something here won't you please just say,

The songs we used to sing just don't have that same ring,
and the lyrics are the same so it's us who have changed,
Could we talk about it, without your pouting tonight,

I know you still care and I wanna be there,
but this complacency is killing us and overspilling us,
we're running empty, please don't tempt me tonight,
because I just might walk away,
If there's still something here it's not enough to make me stay,

You'll always be my Sunlight.
