Where's the HUMAN in Humanity?

Where's the HUMAN in Humanity?

A Poem by Kayla Smith

Something has been lost.
Over generations, it has disappeared into hatefulness of society.
There are the selected few who still practice the forgotten art.
You see these camouflaged heroes in broad daylight:
Opening doors for the elderly,
Returning a dropped item to a struggling mom in the Walmart parking lot,
Complimenting a person on their new hairstyle.
The art of humanity isn't that hard to master.
You just act like a human.
Every human is flawed.
No human is perfect.
But every human has decency.
Every human knows how they would want another human to treat them.
Isn't that why there is the word human in humanity.
But the human part is lost.
Now it's replaced with the demon, society.

Wonderful.
When u write: ".... the human part is lost..." my mind pinged me up with the thought that...
Yeah..."Human" part is walk off the coast of "Humanity" & what's just left is simplistically "envied enmity of anxiety" related to the word "-ity". Ah... what a beautiful & deep poetry. Keep up the gr8 work, lass. Looking 4ward 2 reading whatch ya got!

This poem is so amazing I really enjoyed it.
Its really sad because its so very true.
So many people these days are selfish, cold, some just evil.
Sometimes I find myself horrified by some humans, and its hard to tell if they even have a heart or soul.
I am extreamly glad all hope is not lost though, because even though there are very few left, there are some nice people left in this world, as you have decribed in this poem.
I just hope they don't all disappear soon.

Thank you for sharing this amazing poem, really is an eye opener. Great piece I really enjoyed the write. :)

I really like this poem. I feel like it really does say something about the loss of humanity that a lot of other authors seem to miss. That humanity might be lost in society right now, but people can take it back if they just want to. Especially during the Modernism movement, it seemed that the famous poets and authors of that time forgot that humanity is easy to grasp if you reach out for it. A great poem overall. Keep up the writing. :)
