THE CLOCK AND MY MUSE

 THE CLOCK AND MY MUSE

I determine to cloak my writing

In a stiff attire called discipline

So that I can forget the block

That may attack me at any time

Round the clock.

My muse the undisciplined elf

She comes when I am too busy to dream

And elopes when I am badly in need of her

She loathed the clock and its integrity

I chalk out a plan

That might attune my pen

With my clock and my muse

Into a harmonious co existence

The muse the late comer

Comes too late for the clock

Clock blocks the muse with its knell

Of the exhausted, bounded time, it metes out

I throw my quill away..

I throw my clock away…

I sit there without any desire

To write, to think, to dream..

In the silence that ensued

I hear her footsteps

Soft and fresh as that of a bride

She picks up my quill from the ground

..

She fills it with ink of fictions myriad

Perfumes it with non fictitious facts

Hands it to me in eagerness

Sits too close to my ears

Pour her wisdom into my cranium

I write like a man in his madness

She whispers in my ears…

“Never keep the clock on your table

Follow the ticking of your soul

I will be yours till my last breath”

I concur. The ending lines are really clever and wrap up your poem well. The themes of time and the muse work nicely here.

I enjoyed this piece. It brings you in and the last verse was something that stuck out to me.....yet I think the line I enjoyed most = "Follow the ticking of your soul"

Time made the words come out slower. Better to allow the words come at will. The poem is very good. I can't force poetry out. I will write or not. I like the last lines. A excellent poem.

I love this, how true it is that we get periods where we cannot write a word, and our muse escapes to God's know where, while we remain empty, your words are truthful, full of power and wonder, and written to make us feel so wrapped in that time of no writing, but yes, the last lines sum it up, the soul shall write, so follow .......beautifully done!

There is such a playfulness in your words early on.. the imagery of the clock.. the desire to write but being bound by the feeling of the muse.. And then these last lines are wildly profound in the essence of writing.. the passion that overtakes one and breathes words to life. Amazing!
