MY ATHIEST STUDENT

MY ATHIEST STUDENT

A Poem by JENY
"

musings of a teacher..

"

MY ATHIEST STUDENT( RENOWNED)..

Too anxious to smile

An adolescent loneliness

Sat in the corner of a mind

Stubborn and strict..

Against the demands of growth

Hormones and peptides

While striving for a balance;

Morality as a weird guest..

Impervious to lavas of turmoil

Inside his aching soul,

Dictated its terms and conditions

In perfectly detached dogmas

That put even Gods to shame!!!

Neurons and peptides…

In unison with grey matter

In a brain alien to grayness

Of a wisdom that hailed complicity…

Waged war against gods in churches

Giving birth to an atheist adolescent

Who forgot how to return a smile

At smiling faces

 Searches for God

From a lovelorn mind

Ended up in negations

Of all that are not tangible

Thus washed his brain

In atheism that mocked god

As a peddler of opium..

And made his own concoction

To soothe his rebellious nerves

Thus my student is baptized

Into an atheist now

Chemistry is a mystery to him

Maths is an ‘impossibility’ to him

Physics is allergic to his physique

Literature is, mere raving of his mad teacher

In my moral classes he devises

What all truths should be negated..

I feel ashamed of myself…

That one of my student is a renowned atheist.

this was wrong, well worded but wrong... you judge ur student bcause he is an atheist. and you feel bad because he is an atheist? i think you should rethink how u feel about atheism. well worded though, but to me, (an atheist) the message was either unclear or very judgemental

I understand from the perspective from which you draw the intricacies of the subject matter~ in and of itself you've woven an excellent poetic in search of trying to understand how the minds of children/young adults are shaped~how they may come to draw conclusions about aspects of life which include moral and character~religion~politics~

the last two lines somewhat pull away from the apparently understanding composite above it~

and I have to tell you that I am an athiest with a 14 year old daughter who has chosen of her own accord to be a devout christian~ and I am PROUD of her for being her own person and coming to her own conclusions and incorporating into her life what she feels comfortable with~

Religion and belief is always the choice of the person. The children have great minds and need to figure out what they need and want in a life. A interesting tale. No shame in a student seeking answers.

well what should i say . if you are ashamed of atheists then let me tell me i am ashamed of devout zealots . and no chemistry ain't a mystery for me nor maths is an impossibility for me (got 99 in my board exams) .. literature - well my poems aren't that bad to suggest that i suck at it . being an atheist doesn't mean that one is not spiritual and is amoral . the entire theme of this write doesn't at all justify your write . this was disappointing

I agree that this is way too judgmental. You obviously have good writing skills, but you waste them here. You error in so many ways, and the self-righteous and condemning attitude does not do you justice. I once saw a documentary where a scientist (a real scientist) interviewed the head of the "Creation" science museum in California, and of course the issue of the age of the Earth came up. Creation scientists claim that age to be only about 6000 years, even though they have no evidence for this, and their only justification is the DOGMA OF THE BIBLE. All the evidence of science, however, points to billions of years, with careful observation and testing as the standard bearers, and not what is just written in some ancient book. Anyway, what was so telling and absurd was the comment made by the head of the creation museum to Michael Shermer, defending her claim of a young Earth: "We know we're right." Uh huh, that is closed-mindedness at its best. Atheism is just what it is, it is not a bunch of thugs running around "mocking God" or being "Against the demands of growth" ( How ironic is this!), it is just a way of "without God"; the problem is the self-imposed harm that comes from people like you who are so offended by it because it steps on your closed-minded beliefs, and so you go off half-cocked in a scathing and damning vendetta. You should be ashamed to post a piece like this. Come down from your high horse, and search your heart for tolerance, understanding, and the ability to use the precious gift of human reason to love and communicate rather than wrap yourself in the rags of religious hypocrisy.
