I REGRET

I REGRET

I REGRET

My village school

It is very cool

No desks no benches

No class room hours

My colleagues come late

For long hours they chat

Films are their favorite topic

Their Bollywood star Sharuk

Allowed grants are divided

Among helms well contrived

Progeny of school are exploited

Progeny of leaders on it thrived.

One student a day dropped

From my grip so unarmed

He had to find work

To ward off hunger’s painful jerk..

Twinkle twinkle little star

Charred to ashes, shined never

In the fire of his stomach

That text books, couldn’t soak.

For a free noon meal

They counted hours, agog.

Counting in maths, I failed to seal

Into the salivating minds, of Palvov’s dogs.

3 R’s giggled in the class room like witches.

A predetermined failure hails, wails,

long before exams are written.

Like a fatal epidemic, imbeciles spawn.

Like a mono actor, for my pupils, I stood

Wishing my role to be understood.

I cant charm and focus their attention

Into books, cache of a knowledge, indefinite

I try to motivate the unmotivated minds

Knowing all time my own unmotivated mind,

Each day I step out of my classroom

Hating my crown, my head drooping down

I regret that I am a teacher..

I really regret that I am a teacher.

I have the utmost respect for teachers. This poem is so heartbreaking! I feel the pain of the students and the teacher.. so wanting to teach but life has taken these children to a different plane.. little money and no food, the media and all the hype of Bollywood and Hollywood dictating how one should look and seems now, behave.. the poem is well written but it is heartbreaking. a teacher who would have to regret being one is so sad..
It isn't the teachers most of the time, it is the life so many young people live today.

I like the poem. But it is sort of sad. Where students must find income instead of learning. A well written story with a very nice ending to the poem. A outstanding poem.

Hmm.. Brought back memories of teachers I respect the most. I really miss them. They were more like second parents.. :( Well written.

Sounds like some much needed motivational skills are
needed to stir the inner workings of teacher and student.
Sad when students must leave school to work instead.
I think teachers should be allowed to teach however works
for the students that 'look up to them', even if that means
outside of the classroom! More hands on, more real life
experience. Rarely do kids get to be kids anymore.
