WATERLUSTA Poem by JENYTo my fellow beings suffering from drought, in India‘WATER’LUST Water was my first home It was there, always, to welcome Two hydrogens mated with oxygen Chemistry was always beyond my ken Water in the fridge I gulped to sooth thirst Deity in the temple gave me water, the holiest All my impurities were washed out Still my thirst never died out Aqua guard guarded ‘purity’ of my water Poverty guarded ‘impurity’ of urchin’s water Dying ones waited in water beds Living ones frolicked in water pools Factories dumped impurities Threatening water starved life’s securities Plans for water preservation Sounded like water capitalization All are waiting for a water war nuclear That may explode in the air not so far. To see deaths in the name of water That was once my life’s sole succor. A minnow in my aquarium moaned Silently bubbles went up, exploded My dehydrated soul craved for water A drop of water that might be an elixir Only a drop of water, the elixir That might save oceans of water. From going down to depths unfathomable From going up to heights unreachable Neglecting my thirst for a drop…. Water…Water…. © 2010 JENY |
