My Dreams of Washington

My Dreams of Washington

A Poem by ReileeAnn

My Dreams of Washington

The sparkling snow shines from the glow of my headlight.

Fresh powder falls swiftly from the sky, blanketing the pavement.

I glance out the window and watch the stars dance in the night.

The beauty of a peaceful winter has put me in a trance.

And there, in the middle of the sky, the moon gleams so bright.

The landscape whizzes by, my past getting farther away from me.

With every mile, with every state line, my chest feels less tight.

I can breathe. I can finally breathe. My eyes flutter with hope.

The life I left behind was coated in darkness, now it’s pure white.

My dreams are in reach, and so are your warm eyes and touch.

My life consisted of wrong choices, now things couldn’t be more right.

 ----

Sleep overcomes my body, the purr of the engine soothing my brain.

With you at the wheel, I know I’m safe. Nothing can hurt me.

I’m awaken by your voice, telling me “Welcome to Spokane.”

A smile creeps at my lips. We made it. We actually made it.

I watch as the windshield becomes engulfed in drops of rain.

The weather finally matches the gloominess of my soul.

My despair flows like water, leaving me as if circling down a drain.

I finally made it to the place where my dreams can come true.

Before you, my life was filled with so much darkness and pain.

Your smile is like sunrays shining through the gray sky.

Because of you, I plan to never live another day in vain.
