Her Baby...

Her Baby...

A Poem by SM Davis

A baby cries and

his face is blue

all dreams of mom

soon to come true

a child not much

more than two

climbs a ladder

and walks on roof

he gets a screwdriver

to dig in the dirt but

the refrigerator door's

on the floor under her skirt

a telephone from a hotel

lays in pieces with a chord

his favorite toy above all else

in the corner his pirate's sword

school boy at the age of five

charms the teachers one by one

at age six he starts to thrive

still mommy's baby son

sixth grade teacher temper flares

mom in his face, the class just stares

High school comes by so fast

before she knows it

the years have passed

now he's away

his country he serves

her baby is grown

all her love he deserves

a young man now

responsibilities learned

so far from home

his life has turned

he's her son

and always will be

no greater love exists

he'll be her baby

forever.

Tomorrow is my son's 20th birthday. The first one ever that I haven't spent with him. He's such a good boy.

This piece gave me chills. It is in all good parents. It made me smile as I remembered back. It was written with such a soft stroke. You are an amazing writer, which makes you such a great communicator. Another touching piece. Rain..

thats is so sweet, how wonderful kids can be when they are innocent and the littlest things amuse them, you took us on that journey of watching your baby turn into an adult with you emotionally charged write.
