Maybe...

Maybe...

A Poem by SM Davis

I stand before a mirror
and let my silk robe fall
to the floor...

What do I see?

My fingertips trace
the lines of my face
and I see azure blues
that sparkle...

Tracing...

Stopping on the
scars I remove
my finger and
stare at the supple
breasts that have
been marked forever

Crying...

I continue looking
at this reflection
staring back at me
and I see that there
is beauty...

Again...

Softness touches
my waist and as my
hands come together
over the flatness of my
belly I see...

the beauty that love brings...

I fall to my knees
and my lips meet
the coolness of the

reflection looking back at me

I see that she is me
and finally I remember
that I love her

maybe another's hands
and eyes and lips

will love her too.

Wow this is a very personal poem. It reminds me of a poem I read by Carol Ann Duffy, which is no bad thing. Love does bring beauty. I have been beginning to realise the things in myself I see as flaws are what makes me perfect to another's eyes. NH

Love lies in beauty and beauty lies only in love...Love makes a being the most beautiful, however ugly would transform to an angelic form.
I loved this poem a lot.The touch of sadness, a reflection reflecting specks of beauty along with love.
The imagery is absolutely delightful. The way the character transcends from a gloomy world to the world of love and beauty.

Great write.

There is no doubt, no doubt at all. Love is positive. A beautiful experience both in the writing and the reading.

This is powerful and beautiful, with a touch of sadness and hope. I love your structure and wonderful use of language. I especially love your ending, "...I fall to my knees and my lips meet the coolness of the reflection looking back at me..." all the way through to your touching finish. Just brilliant and touching. I was very moved when I read this.

I don't see why not. Great work here Sm. Love the loss and wonderment of it all as well as the longing and hoping. Good read.

To see beyond the scars into the inner beauty of the spirit, is the most precious gift of all. An insight, which will be recognised by another; at the right time.

Exquisitely creative imagery, encapsulating the outpourings of a traumatised heart. A 'maybe' to a 'will be', I have no doubt!

To love someone, you must first love yourself. Excellent.

Achingly beautiful. Why is it that we question whether someone will love us when our physical attributes have been marred ? One shall fall in love with you. It will start at your eyes and anything else you are insecure about wont matter. I love the last two stanzas of this poem. They really convey the uncertainty of the speaker and bring meaning to the other stanzas. I also like the single words as breaks between stanzas, they help to add to the hesitant and often lacking confidence we all have in ourselves.
