Hot Day

Hot Day

A Poem by Diane Smalley
"

...you know who you are...

"

I remember the heat rising from you

Your jeans just tight enough to

Promote invitation where your shirt tucked in

Tan arms moving, flexed ever so slightly

            Kinetic motion

Of heated atoms rising

Without effort

I remember you said you liked

            The brilliant approach with caution

Heat rising from the hood of the car

                                  Unforgiving

                        Undeniable

            A warning you said

That some things cannot be contained against gravity

That it would take a long time to cool

That it would always be this way.
