Different Yet the Same

Different Yet the Same

A Poem by Abbie
"

Okay, I wrote this for english class because we are reading a book called The Outsiders. this is told by one of the greaser's point of view. I know it isn't my best work, but oh well! :)

"

Why does it matter

If you live on the

West side or the East?

Why does it matter

If you have money

And I don’t?

Why does it matter

If you are a Soc

Or a Greaser?

Who are you to

tell me what I am

Or what I’m not?

We both have

Some problems

And many at that.

We both are

Tough as nails

And love to fight.

We both have friends

 Who we trust

more than anything.

The more I think

Long and hard about it

The more I realize…

You might be a Soc

High and mighty

Living with money to blow.

I might be a Greaser

Dangerous and feared

Struggling to survive.

Even though we live

On opposite sides of the town

And seem so different,

I think we may be

More alike than

We could ever imagine.

Okay, I truly love this. I wish most of the people I know that like to compare would open their eyes and read this wonderful piece of work!!!:D I agree with all of this. I know how it feels to be compared when you don't have as much as others. It sucks, but what I think is so funny is they don't even realize we are alike more than different. You done an excellent job on showing how some people are so clueless that we're alike even if we might come from different sides! :)
Keep up the good work, you're a great writer remember that.

P.S.-I actually think this is one of your best!:D

Even though you wrote this about Outsiders, I think it could very well fit in with real life and many things that are seen and happen in day to day life. The comparisons you used in the poem are amazing and I think that judging people (and people who just want a good read!) should read this. Great poem.

I enjoyed the constant comparisons that really highlighted the differences of the two sides. It's interesting to see how they're so different yet "More alike than/ We could ever imagine." Nice poem.

I love the outsiders. Great poem. I think we all feel like we're different from others only to later realize that we might not be so different after all. Really good job showing this.
