Gardens of the Imagination

Gardens of the Imagination

A Poem by Sharon
"

About gardens.

"

I caught a rainbow on a hook of dreams.

What a wonderful palette to paint with.

A rainbow made a meadow full of flowers growing freely.

A river running through was a deep cerulean blue.

The grass was a soft spring green.

there were brilliant scarlet poppies,

and cornflower blue columbines.

I saw brilliant cloud white Shasta daisies,

and Periwinkles in the grass.

Pinks and violets, and Jimmy Jump Ups too.

What a lovely rainbow in a meadow on a mountain slope.

All from a rainbow snatched from the sky.

A little flower garden by a house long fallen down.

I saw it in the woods one day

as I was walking home.

It had been somebodies home once upon a time.

A simple little frame house out in the woods.

There was an old well cover with a pump handle you could use.

When I tried it, it still brought up sweet cold water

to drink on that hot day.

I wondered who had lived there in that by gone long ago.

when those roses were tended by loving hands

and that lovely white flowered tree still grew apples for a family.

Did they have children to eat them?

Did their mother bake sweet pies.

Oh the memories evoked by this old tumbled down home.

Bitter sweet with time, for we will never know.

They are gone, and there is not much left.

Just a small kitchen garden with only roses growing now.

They were planted by the house in that time of long ago.

Just a little garden in the park

Only a circle of simple daisies witha rosebush in the center

Lovely flowers growning in a small circle

For walkers by to enjoy

Probably planted due to an empty spot

and some extra seeds the caretaker had

But they make a pretty circle

right here at the path's end.
