I'm A Single Raindrop

I think I wrote this last year as a song for a contest that at the last second my friend chickened out and didn't want to sing for anymore. So I removed repeating chorus and made it a poem.

I'm a single raindrop,

slidin' down the window pane,

I can't seem to smile,

smile through the rain.

 

I miss your heart beat,

The tickin' of my clock,

Beating next to me,

Baby, how could it stop?

 

Listen to the drumming,

of the rain on frosted glass,

tears of my heartache,

Raining down the past.

 

Sickness clouds me,

I can't eat or sleep or breath,

It's just too much baby,

why'd you have to leave?

 

It's been so long since I've felt you,

Next to me is a darkness without you,

If I asked you to smile one last time,

Would you ask it to be with me?

 

If you could would you have another day,

Just to lie next to me,

To hold my hand and pray,

To cry, to sigh to breath,

Would you take it, or would you rather be,

Just another ghost of mine waiting to be free?

The smiling in the rain,

I miss the laughter,

The jokes, the pain the games.

 

Like a candle unlit,

In the darkness in the quiet,

I wait for you to come back,

Be my fire again and lite it.

 

Baby it's hard to think for another second,

That I'm left here dying,

And you're restin' up in heaven,

 Floating in the clouds like a child's wayward dream,

The pain like a knife, cutting into me.

 

Call it selfish,

call it what you will,

But baby I need you,

You have my heart to fill.
