In the Times Of Famine

In the Times Of Famine

A Poem by Shannon April Alice
"

just a bopbopbop

"

I'm waiting on that bench of ours,

where we kissed among the stars

and made a lullaby to sing

for a babe we didn’t bring.

I’m counting as the cars ride by

all the trips we didn’t try

and all the kisses in the rain

to make us feel in love again.

I’m climbing down the basement stairs

to bury secrets,  no one cares.

In the time of famine, dearest

We  devour what is nearest.

Consider now your starving heart

you’ll  digest me part by part.

Ever so sweetly sad in tearful illusion of a romance and love gone wrong ... Some fools fail to value gems as the precious jewels they are ... Such is their loss ... Yet, tomorrow may arrive in shouts of joy for that man whom happenstance chooses to bless with meeting that treasure of a jewel a fool hast discarded ... Beautifully done, as words penned that speak to the heart of this old man of mush from Texas ... Macho has long since departed my life, having left it in ruins and ashes, and so in the depths of self induced disaster, sometimes a man finds himself embracing romance as a far better friend than anything being Macho had to offer ...

Last four lines just twisted the whole concept, and unrevealed the depth of its suspense. Love. Joy. Happiness. Emotions and indolence... everythin' is nicely captured in this poetry.

Looking forward to readin' your work!
